Sad News

On Friday Ty and I learned that his Grandma Van Cuyk passed away. We are so sad that we live so far away and won't be able to go to the funeral. But are glad that we got to sit and visit with her for a long time last christmas.


Cornelia "Cora" M. Van Cuyk, age 90, died Friday morning, November 17, 2006. She was born December 8, 1915, to the late Cornelius and Anna (Ver Gowan) Hermus, the second oldest of 14 children, in Kimberly and had been a life long resident of Combined Locks. Cora was united in marriage to George M. Van Cuyk on November 26, 1936; he preceded her in death on September 15, 1978. She helped anybody and everybody anytime. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

Cora is survived by three sons: Jerry (Bunny) Van Cuyk, Hilbert; Casey (Elaine) Van Cuyk, Combined Locks; LeRoy (Colleen) Van Cuyk, Kaukauna; three daughters: Jo Ann (Vern) Roepcke, Hilbert; Rosemary Thiel, Darboy; Mary (Dennis) Aerts, Wrightstown; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Mathilda) Hermus, Seymour; Adrian (Evelyn) Hermus, Kimberly; four sisters: Mary Vanden Heuvel, Green Bay; Antonette Van Handel, Kimberly; Theresa Linsmeyer, Seymour; Rose (Harold) Hendricks, Bonduel; a sister-in-law, Jean Hermus, De Pere; and a brother-in-law, Ed Klarner, Kimberly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, a son, Francis Van Cuyk, a son-in-law, Robert B. Thiel, infant grandsons, Ronald Roepcke and Benjamin Van Cuyk, sisters: Nellie Weller, Jane Hermus, Josephine Hermus, Anna Vanden Heuvel and Betty Klarner, brothers, James Hermus and Anton Hermus.

The funeral liturgy for Cora will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at ST PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 East Wallace Street, Combined Locks, with Father Jim Lucas officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church, from 10 a.m., until the time of the mass. A parish prayer and scripture service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday. A memorial fund is being established.
